Day 1

Introduction to illustration focusing on the idea that illustrations are images that tell stories.

Complete Mad-Libs.

Share Mad-Libs.

Day 2

Discuss how drawing animals could be intimidating.

Show guides and demonstrate how animals can be broken down into simple shapes.

Students practice drawing the selected animals using guides.

Day 3

Demonstration on how to change placement of shapes of animals to perform an action.

Students practice drawing animals doing action from Mad-Lib.

Day 4

Pre-Quiz on Background, Middleground, Foreground

Introduction to BG, MG, FG.

Have students identify in groups where different regions are in composition.

Day 5

Introduction to Mood. Mood can be created through subject matter, lines and colors.

Group students by mood in Mad-Lib. Generate list of how they can create a certain mood in their artwork.

Create sketch of background with elements to create a certain mood.

Day 6

Sketch background on final paper. Use visual guides for help.

Day 7

Sketch animals into positions.

Day 8

Finish sketching and trace onto final paper.

Day 9

Demonstrate proper color pencil technique.

Complete color pencil practice. Must pass before using color pencils on final.

Day 10

Add color.
